About Sarah Bird

Sarah is an experienced 2D/3D Computer Animator and Animation Director specialising in broadcast, online and corporate animation.

Sarah has worked for clients such as Nickelodeon, CBBC, CBeebies, Toon Disney, Channel 4/RDF Media, MTV, Nokia, Sony and Waterstones to name but a few. Recently she worked alongside Plug-in Media, Kindle Entertainment and CBeebies on the BAFTA Award winning Big & Small online game. She was nominated for the Freelancer of the Year award at the 2008 Digital Media Awards and has won a Gold Award at the New York Film and Video Festival for a ten minute animation she created with a local producer and helped to win Red Bee Media a Gold Promax Award for Best Children's Ident for her animation work with Blue-Zoo Productions on the CBBC show Level Up.

In 2009, Sarah was fortunate enough to be accepted into Gobelins l'ecole de l'image onto their Character Animation Summer School course - where she was taught advanced character animation skills by tutors from Pixar, Dreamworks & Weta Digital.

She runs two companies: AnimNation - working as an Animation Director on projects for broadcast, corporate and online clients; and Brown & Sticky Productions where she is Co-director and develops children's television and online content. Through Brown & Sticky Productions Sarah developed a children's TV series called Adrian's Wall which was pitched at the 2008 Cartoon Forum conference - for which she had to develop, direct and create a 45-second 3D animated trailer.

Sarah runs the Brighton Animators Networking Group (BANG!) - organising all of the group's events and directs the group's collaborative animation projects. In 2009, Sarah helped to organise the Brighton Animators contribution towards the Brighton White Night Festival - putting together a night of animated projections onto the Brighton Unitarian Church - which received a great deal of media coverage.

For the last four years Sarah has worked with Sussex Downs College to set an industry brief for the final year students on the Multimedia degree - an article about her connection with the college and a critic of the students work was featured in Computer Arts magazine. Sarah has also run a workshop on creating 3D assets for Papervision3D applications. She frequently gives careers advice about the animation industry at local colleges and conferences.

Prior to starting AnimNation, Sarah was employed as Lead Animator at Blue-Zoo Productions. After leaving Blue-Zoo in 2004, she created and directed an animated short film through the Screen South Digital Short scheme called Image, which went on to be screened at international film festivals.
